Boron

Evidence: ★★★☆☆ · Status: OTC Supplement

💡 Did you know? Boron — a trace mineral almost nobody supplements — can raise free testosterone and lower inflammation markers in small human studies.

In plain English

Most of your testosterone is "handcuffed" to a carrier protein and unusable. Boron loosens those handcuffs so more testosterone is actually active. Cheap and underused.

How it works

Trace mineral that lowers sex-hormone-binding-globulin (SHBG) — freeing bound testosterone — reduces estradiol via aromatase influence, and improves conversion of vitamin D to its active form.

Molecular target & official sources

SHBG (NCBI Gene) · Boric acid (PubChem CID 7628)

Protocol

3–10 mg/day with food. >20 mg is toxic.

Bottom line

Add 10 mg to a zinc + D3 stack — strong evidence per dollar.

Helps with: Joint Health · Hormones & Testosterone · Bone Health

The human evidence

Small human studies show a modest rise in free testosterone and a drop in inflammatory markers over ~1 week at 6–10 mg, plus a role in bone and vitamin-D/magnesium handling. Low-dose, low-risk, but effect sizes are small.

Stacks with

Vitamin D3 and magnesium (boron supports their metabolism).

Shares a pathway — often paired with: Omega-3 (EPA/DHA), Vitamin D3 (+ K2), Testosterone (TRT), Finasteride / Dutasteride.

Availability & where to buy

Available over the counter. Widely available OTC — e.g. iHerb (ships worldwide); in Singapore also Guardian, Watsons, GNC, Shopee / Lazada. Look for a third-party-tested / GMP mark and check the dose per serving. Very cheap — a year of 6 mg capsules for ~S$15–25.
