The human evidence

The large GAIT trial (~1,500 patients) found glucosamine+chondroitin no better than placebo overall for knee osteoarthritis, though a moderate-to-severe-pain subgroup did benefit. Evidence is genuinely mixed — worth a 6–8 week trial for moderate OA, not a sure thing.

Avoid combining with

Shellfish allergy (most glucosamine is shellfish-derived); mild interaction with warfarin.
